New Article with Grace Werner: America First Meets Safety First

Competition and cooperation need to be carefully balanced given the impossibility of an AGI monopoly.

Continuing our exploration of AI policy under the second Trump administration (see first post here), Grace and I just published a new article in AI Frontiers.

The article argues that — even while the US competes vigorously in some areas — American policymakers also need to recognize that China will inevitably have powerful AI capabilities. Given the many risks of AI, the US thus has a strong interest in cooperating to ensure that each countries’ AI capabilities are developed and deployed responsibly.
